Grand jury will consider indicting driver in deadly mail truck

BEAUMONT, Texas — A grand jury is anticipated to take into account irrespective of whether to indict a person who was driving a mail truck at the time of a crash that killed a 32-year-old Vidor gentleman.

Prosecutors are anticipated to present the scenario to a grand jury ahead of May possibly 2023. District Lawyer Keith Giblin told 12News the situation was provided to his business office Monday.

The crash transpired on October 25, 2022. Beaumont Police responded to Interstate 10 northbound and southbound at Laurel soon after obtaining a call about a fatal crash.

Police believe an 18-wheeler box truck carrying mail was driving northbound, when the driver missing command of the car or truck and hit a cement heart divider. The strike knocked the divider into southbound targeted visitors. 

The 18-wheeler then ongoing into the southbound lanes, hitting a 2016 Ford Escape that Jonathan Allen Droddy was driving. Droddy died on effect and leaves powering his wife and younger daughter.  

The retaining wall hit a grey GMC Sierra decide on-up that was driving southbound. The driver of the decide on-up was not hurt. 

The driver of the box truck had non-lifetime-threatening injuries. He afterwards instructed law enforcement that he moved into the middle lane and then into the outdoors lane, but when he did, he went much too significantly and drove off the roadway.

The truck driver then told law enforcement he overcorrected and crossed back over all northbound lanes. The overcorrection finished in the fatal crash.

The box truck associated in the crash is owned by B & N Mail Service.

In November, the attorney symbolizing his relatives explained to 12Information they are arranging to sue. The civil accommodate would be different from the pending felony situation.
